MURA SCHOLARSHIPS AWARDED

MURA was proud to recognize the student recipients of the MURA’s Kitty Dickerson Scholarships Program. Scholarships are awarded annually to children of current MU staff persons. Recipients for 2019 were announced:

InHan KimInHan starts her senior year this fall, studying mechanical engineering with a minor in aerospace engineering. She is currently completing her engineering Co-op at Ameren in St. Louis working in transmission maintenance and the Unmanned Aerial Vehicle department. Her father, JaeWoo, is an Assistant Research Professor in MU’s Division of Animal Sciences.

Emily Scully Emily is a rising senior in the Honors College working towards her bachelor of science in statistics and psychology. She is also an Arts, Social Sciences & Humanities (ASH) Scholar, a researcher at MU’s Food & Agricultural Policy Research Institute (FAPRI-MU) and a research assistant in the Peer Relations lab. After graduation, she hopes to continue her education by attending graduate school and obtaining her masters in statistics. Her father, Clifford, works for MU Printing and Mail Services as a Prepress Imposition Specialist.

Brianna WittenbornBrianna has finished her freshman year at MU, working towards her degree in digital storytelling and graphic design. Photography and digital editing are her passions and she really enjoys her classes. Her mother, Nancy, is a Staff Development Specialist for MU Health Care.

CHANCELLOR HONORS RETIREES OF THE YEAR

Chancellor Alexander Cartwright announced the recipients of the 2019 Retiree of the Year awards.  Mrs. Sandra Taylor was named Staff Retiree of the Year and Dr. Jill Raitt was named Faculty Retiree of the Year.

Sandra Taylor retired from the School of Medicine’s Department of Family and Community Medicine in 2007. She is a MURA Life Member and has served as Chair of the MURA Chancellor’s Faculty and Staff Retiree of the Year Awards Committee.  She currently serves as MURA’s  liaison with MU Health Care Volunteer Office to promote retiree volunteer opportunities at MU Health Care.

Sandy’s community volunteer activities include work at Ellis Fischel Cancer Center, serving on the Ellis Fischel Auxiliary Board as membership chair, vice president and president-elect.  When the Cancer Center moved to their current location, she was on the committee to merge the hospital and Ellis auxiliaries — now known as MU Health Care Partners.  Sandy has served as President and other leadership roles for this group.  In addition to her health care service, Sandy works with community theater, serving on the Columbia Entertainment Company board as recording secretary, historian and a house manager.

Dr. Jill Raitt retired from the College of Arts and Science’s Department of Religious Studies in 2000.  Throughout her career, Dr. Raitt has written many books and articles and was a senior editor of two multi-volume encyclopedias.  She also served as president of the American Academy of Religion and was chosen as an Alumna of the Year by the University of Chicago’s Divinity School.

Since her retirement, Dr. Raitt has been a member of the MU Retirees Association and has continued to serve Mizzou part-time through research, teaching and mentoring.  She is also very involved in her community, volunteering at Boone Hospital Center and teaching refugees through the Catholic Charities of Central and Northern Missouri’s Refugee and Immigration Services.

Dr. Betsy Garrett, MURA President-Elect, presented a symbolic check to Chancellor Alexander Cartwright, representing contributions made by retirees in 2019 to the It’s My Mizzou campaign.
